HD for the Holidays!

WFAA a television station in Dallas / Fort Worth, TX has in interesting article that compares the Flip Mino HD to the Kodak Zi6 By WALT ZWIRKO / WFAA (WFAA.com). Here is the link to the article "Have an HD holiday with pocket-size camcorders"! Also another article that mentions the Kodak Zi6 "Computer Corner Newsletter for Nov. 27"! No video to post which is kinda odd being that they are a TV Station.

This is truly AMAZING!

I found this on Greg Hughes website (greghughes.net) and this was shot with the Kodak Zi6 from high above and is truly AMAZING... HA! Get it?

Mike Agerbo shows the Kodak Zi6

Mike Agerbo "Tech Guy" joins Global Television for the tech segment (Kodak Zi6 begins at 1:23):

Bigger is better?

USAToday (USAToday.com) reports that YouTube (YouTube.com) has added a new high-definition video play to it's site (YouTube unveils high-definition video player), however the quality is still does not compare to other sites like Vemio (Vemio.com). From YouTube's blog ( blogyoutube.com/blog) posted November 24th 2008:

"Bigger Isn't Always Better... But in This Case, We Believe It Is
Over the years we've heard a lot of feedback from you about what you'd like to change about YouTube, and the size of our video player is always top of mind. That's why today we're excited to announce a bigger YouTube player.

We're expanding the width of the page to 960 pixels to better reflect the quality of the videos you create and the screens that you use to watch them. This new, wider player is in a widescreen aspect ratio which we hope will provide you with a cleaner, more powerful viewing experience. And don't worry, your 4:3 aspect ratio videos will play just fine in this new player.
"

So now you make the choice YouTube or Viemo!

Kodak Zi6 "Seeing is Believing"

Here is a test shot for possible Kodak Zi6 advertisement with the tag line Record... Play... Share... Seeing is Believing.

So why is this a big deal?

A couple of things that some reviews mentions that is bad about the Kodak Zi6 is the fact that it uses rechargeable AA batteries and the limited on board storage. So why is this a big deal? When compared to the Flip Mino HD that has an internal lithium-ion rechargeable and 4GB of internal memory, why is this good? When the Flip Mino HD battery goes dead you must wait 2-3 hours to charge the battery, with the Kodak ZI6 rechargeable AA if they go dead - Yes you have to recharge them, however you can get regular AA and continue on you way recording. WIth the Flip Mino HD you have a standard 4GB of internal storage which will give you one hour of recording time, however with the Kodak Zi6 you pick the amount of storage you need by buying an extra SD card. MSRP on the Flip Mino HD is $229.95 and MSRP on the Kodak Zi6 is $179.95 Even when you factor in the price of an SD card, extra rechargeable AA the Kodak Zi6 is still the clear and best choice for a pocket video camera.

theBigMouth weighs in on the Kodak Zi6

Here is the review that I just posted on Cnet dot com:
"Kodak Zi6 - An HD pocket cam for the rest of us!"
by thebigmouth on November 22, 2008

Pros: Nice Size, HD Video, AA rechargeable, Takes SD Cards, Did I mention HD Video? Big bright view area
Cons: No stabilization built in, Low light Quality, No Macintosh Support, Digital Zoom
Summary: Well Kodak does it again! Kodak will do what it did for still photography to video photography, make it simple and with HD to boot with the all new Kodak Zi6. I love the idea of the rechargeable AA batteries if they go dead and I not near a recharger I can put in regular AA. The SD card, Yea I know there is not one in the box, but think of the options you'll have all the storage you can afford. The HD is absolutely gorgeous and for a price that anyone can afford. The viewing screen on the back is incredible as well! YEP there is an Flip Mino HD but for my buck there is no better than Kodak! Why? Because Kodak made a science in color and the Kodak Zi6 delivers. Some say that the Zi6 need stabilization and honestly I don't think that would help me, because I am one lousy videographer. The main thing that I wish this had was Macintosh support, the onboard software is for Pee Cee use only. The digital zoom does need some work as well as the video quality in low light. This is one great little pocket video cam that everyone is going to want. Check out the Zi6 blog at zedi6.blogspot.com!

Kodak Zi6 & Motorola ZN4 on C/Net

Let me start by saying that I am a real geek and I love gadgets! I was doing some research on C/Net.com on my next cell phone the Motorola Krave ZN4 (Beam me up Scotty!) Now C/Net is the wrong place for me to be! Why, you ask? Well because it causes me to spend $$$. For those of you that do not know, C/Net is the Holy Grail of electronic reviews and is simply the best place to check out reviews and comparisons on all items electronic. C/Net is where I first saw the Kodak Zi6, which I bought proving my earlier statement that C/Net causes me to spend money. Of course you will want to check out the Kodak Zi6 C/Net Review and then C/Net's Shopper.com and the Pocket Video Camera Under $200 Comparison page. After that back away from any C/Net site....

Kodak Zi6 Stuff Review

I just found this on "YouTube" from "Stuff":

Who in the world is Ron Baird?

Per Kodak's Zi6 website, Ron Baird is listed as a "Consumer Advocate" or as Ron puts it "The friendly Kodak Guy". Ron has been responding to users reviews on the Zi6.

In regards to no image stabilization, Ron writes:
"We noted that you had a concern about it not having image stability. We do appreciate your interest in having that feature but it is not included so we could bring this camera to you at a really low cost for what it can do."

In regards to using the Zi6 as a still camera, Ron Writes:
"Since the camera is truly a video camera, it is not designed for still images. We did include an option where stills can be captured from a video but that is about it. The camera is a true video camera and does an excellent job of it. If you need still images, as noted, however, your best bet is to use a still camera."

WOW a consumer advocate from Kodak, just another plus on why you should get a Zi6. Check out what "Ron, The Friendly Kodak Guy" has to say plus all the other reviews and information on the Kodak Zi6 website.

Introducing the UltraPod!

I bought the Kodak Zi6 and realized that I would need some sort of a tripod. So down to the local camera shop I went and found a handy little item called an UltraPod from PedCo (PedCoPods Website), Not only is it a foldable tripod but it also has a velcro strap that would hold the UltraPod to a small tree or pipe. It really is a cool little item. If your in the market for a great tripod look no further than the UltraPod. Click the link below and buy from Amazon and support this site. Thanks!

Viemo -VS- You Tube

The Kodak Zi6 comes pre-loaded with software (PC only) that will allow you to upload your clips directly to You Tube (You Tube Website). I came across a review for the Zi6 on Galding (Gadling Kodak Zi6 Review) and they had posted a clip from Vimeo (Vimeo Website). Viemo is another site that allows you to upload video clips for the world to see much like You Tube, however the main difference is that Vimeo will allow you to upload in HD as well. With the Vimeo "free" account they will allow you to upload 500 mb a week, however only one HD video a week is allowed. Also with the free account you cannot embed those HD video on other sites it is just normal video. Take for example this clip, It's was upload as HD but if you want to view it in HD you must go to the Vimeo site to see it in HD:

State of the Art Digital Studio from ZEDiMac on Vimeo.

They encourage you to get "Vimeo Plus" which will allow as many HD video's as you want up to 2 GB for $59.95. I really like the looks of the HD on Vimeo and it is certainly worth the free account to post 1 HD video a week Check it out! Vimeo.com
